This is the blog of an informal group of dedicated knitters in Stockholm, Sweden.
Here we will share our ups and downs, purls and knits with you.
We meet every Tuesday at Hurtigs Konditori at Drottninggatan 90. There's usually someone there from around 5 pm, and we normally hang around until they close at 9 pm.
Everyone's welcome to knit with us!

The first knit night at Hurtigs Konditori went very well, there were about eight knitters there, both old and new (yay!). We had a very nice time, the new café is very nice, calm and pleasant with good lighting (always a priority). They did play some music a bit later on the evening, but not very loud, we could easily talk without raising our voices. I think our new venue will suit us very well.
I completely forgot to take any pictures, I'll try to remember next time, hope to see you then!

Some of you might wonder if the sthlm knitters have fallen off the face of the earth. A valid question. But I am happy to tell you that we haven't! As with many activities, there are ups and downs, and sometime you don't have so much time to spend on the things you want to do.
The point with this knitting group is that it's NOT organized. At least, not a lot. No membership, no requirement to turn up, no strings attached. We have decided on Tuesdays, and you just show up! Hopefully someone else does too, but it varies.
When we first started this knitting group back in April 2004, we met at each other's apartments. It didn't take us long to realize that it's easier for newbies to join if you meet somewhere in public, so we decided on a café. The first three or four times we met at a café in Drottninggatan. This was before smoking was banned in cafés and restauarants in Stockholm, and that place was rather "smokey" so we decided to change venue. We ended up at Gino's coffee in Odengatan. Sometimes there's just a couple of pople there and sometimes it's 20. However, lately we've been thinking about changing venue again for a number of reasons. Some of us are out scouting, so hopefully, we'll find a new place soon to meet up with our requirements.
We'll keep you posted!

World Wide Knit In Public Day June 9, 2007
World Wide Knit In Public Day was started in 2005, as a way to bring knitters together and to encourage knitters to knit in public. Many knitters have no problem knitting in public, but others aren't quite so into it. The idea is that even if you're knitting alone on a park bench somewhere, you're not really alone, there are hundreds of knitters doing the exact same thing at the same time. This is a way to help knitters feel good about their hobby, and maybe introduce more people to the craft. Another part of WWKIP is that one thing can unite people of all different backgrounds.
Tid: lördag 9 juni 2006 klockan 12-17 Var: Mariatorget, Söder, Stockholm Att ta med: Något att sitta på (filt), något att äta & dricka samt massor att sticka förstås! Mer info: http://www.wwkipday.com/

We had a knitter from Sydney visiting us yesterday. It was so fun to meet her, Elaine - you can read about her here. It's always fun to meet new knitters from all over the world so If you are coming to town and have time over to knit, let us know - we love to meet you! And it's doesn't matter if you are from Härnösand, Oslo or New York. You are all welcome to knit with us!

We're on the radio! Sveriges Radio's (Swedish Radio) Stockholm channel, P5, have a series on "10 resons to love Stockholm" and we were inteviewed before Christmas. It was aired today, and you can listen to it on the internet starting today and for another 30 days. It's in Swedish, of course, but if you want to listen to it, you can find it HERE. Scroll down and click on the link that says: "12:30-13:00 Onsdag 3 januari". You have to "fast forward" about 13 minutes before the interview starts.

Snow has been depressingly scarce in Stockholm this winter, but yesterday afternoon brought some hope! Huge, fat flakes slowly drifting to the ground. A real Snow Day! However, temperature is up today and the sun is out, so any lingering snow has now melted away. But we had a lovely time at Ginoscoffe yesterday anyway! We were visited by a journalist from Radio Stockholm who is doing a series on odd and unknown occurrences in Stockholm. We are neither odd nor unknown (known due to last year's media coverage), but do not mind spreading the Good Word, so to speak, on knitting to those poor souls not yet saved! The interview will be broadcast about a week after Christmas, and we'll try to link to it once it's available on the Radio Stockholm website. Well, Christmas is soon upon us, and we'll leave you with some photos from yesterday along with a wish: Have a Very Knitty Christmas and a Crafty New Year!
Here we all are: See you next year!
